For many years, it has been known that mice and rats maintained on a
long-term reduced food intake have an increased life span and remain
healthy and vigorous at their advanced ages. What is the reason for this
change in the usual pattern of aging? The evidence is overwhelming that
the life extension results from a slowing of the aging processes, and the
factor responsible is the decrease in caloric intake. The obvious question:
How does this factor work? A good question—and the reason research
on the anti-aging action of caloric restriction is today one of the most
studied research areas in biological gerontology.
In 1988, Rick Weindruch and Roy Walford co-authored The Retardation of Aging and Disease by Dietary Restriction, which provided an
excellent encyclopedic coverage of research findings, and played an
important role in attracting talented investigators into the field. Indeed,
in the ensuing years, research activity increased to such an extent that
encyclopedic coverage would not only be a monumental undertaking
but also one that would prove far too tedious to read. Yet, as new
investigators enter the field and gerontologists and geriatricians seek to
keep abreast of developments, what is needed is an update of the field
that also provides its historical underpinnings. The present book aims to
meet these needs.

Biologically

Biology is a natural science that is concerned with the study of life, its various forms and its function, how these organisms interact with each other and with the surrounding environment. The word biology in Greek is made up of two words: bio (βίος) meaning life. And loggia (-λογία) means science or study. Biology: the similarity of vegetation and animal cover on the edges of the African and American states, and the existence of the same fossil.

Branches of biology
Biology is an ancient science thousands of years old and modern biology began in the nineteenth century. This science has multiple branches. Among them are:

Anatomy
Botany
Biochemia
Biogeography
Biofisia
Cytology or cell science
Ecology or environmental science
